GROW CEO Elected to Nationally Acclaimed Association of Women’s Business Centers (AWBC) Board

March 5, 2018, Grand Rapids, Michigan – Grand Rapids Opportunities for Women (GROW) CEO, Bonnie Nawara, has been elected to lead the Association of Women’s Business Centers (AWBC) as Chair of the Board of Directors. In this position, Nawara will ensure that the AWBC continues to grow and strengthen as an organization so that all Women Business Centers (WBCs) have the resources and guidance to assist female entrepreneurs in starting, financing and sustaining small businesses.

“I was an ‘in-the-trenches’ business owner. I was always thinking on my feet and learning as I grew, and at times making critical decisions based on very few facts,” said Ms. Nawara. “I learned a lot from my experience and understand how crucial it is for business owners to understand that they are not alone in making tough decisions. I brought this experience to GROW as its CEO for the past seven years and am happy to be able to share it at a national level now with AWBC.”

The Association of Women’s Business Centers (AWBC) is a national non-profit 501(c)(3) organization founded in 1998 that works to secure economic justice and entrepreneurial opportunities for women by supporting and sustaining a national network of over 108 Women’s Business Centers (WBCs).

The WBCs play a critical role in moving women-owned businesses and our economy ahead. WBCs help women succeed in business by providing training, mentoring, business development and financing opportunities to over 140,000 women entrepreneurs each year in every state in the union.

As a board chair of AWBC, Nawara will lead national-level insight, resources and support for budding women entrepreneurs across the country. “By addressing the needs of female entrepreneurs at a national level, we can create best practices, tools, and resources to be shared throughout our network of member centers,” said Nawara.

GROW is one of the three Women’s Business Centers in Michigan. The organization serves West Michigan by offering professional advice, comprehensive services that support business assessment, planning, training, and education, along with small business lending and microloans to women-owned startups throughout West Michigan.
