Dealing with Self Doubt, Feeling Like an Impostor, and Learning to Take Care of You

Being a woman in this world doesn’t come without its challenges. And those challenges need to be addressed. It’s our duty as women who champion other women, to talk about our struggles, and to remind one another that we’re in this together. Here, we’ll talk about the biggest things that have an influence on women—whether at home, at work, in personal lives or professional—and one hugely important and simple way to combat them.

Self-Doubt. Easy to cultivate, and hard to overcome.

Self-doubt is common amongst women, and often the number one cause of hesitation in reaching for a goal, starting a business, speaking up at the PTA meeting, or posting that photo to Facebook. In a world full of competition, it’s easy for your mind to take over and make you believe that you’re not as worthy as the next woman. But here’s our secret: YOU ARE. And that’s one of our missions at GROW; to help women start, grow, and sustain their businesses. If you’ve got questions, we’ve got answers. If you need help, that’s what we’re here for. We are dedicated to supporting women entrepreneurs at every level and giving you all of the stepping stones to be successful. The next time self-doubt crawls in and says “you can’t do it,” remember that the staff at GROW is ready to remind you that you can.

Dealing with Impostor Syndrome.

This phenomenon is the internalized belief that your accomplishments are based on luck, that you’re not deserving of your success, and that you’ll be exposed as a fraud. The thought of incompetence or of not being good enough is common among women, and especially those fighting their way to the top.

When dealing with impostor syndrome and trying to overcome it, it’s important to learn to accept your success for exactly what it is. Stop seeking external validation, stop focusing on your mistakes, and take a good, hard look at all you’ve created in your business endeavors. DO NOT be afraid to ask questions or to ask for help. Trust us. We’re all doing it. And of course, don’t forget that GROW is here for you, to provide you with a community of other like-minded women, ready to support you and all that you do.

A Popular Fix: Self-Care.

The importance of self-care cannot be overlooked in today’s day and age, especially in relation to self-doubt. It’s important, as businesswomen, moms, and entrepreneurs, that we take time to take care of ourselves. It’s no secret that a woman’s work is never done! So, finding things that allow you to relax, de-stress, and indulge is essential to building a happy and healthy life for yourself (and those around you)

Here are some of our top suggestions for self-care!

  • Take a bath. No seriously, throw in some bubbles, Epsom salts, or essential oils and relax.
  • Start a journal. Write to yourself. Write about things you’re grateful for. Summarize your day. Create a habit out of paying attention to yourself.
  • Read a book. Yes, that one. The one that’s been on your list for months now.
  • We know this one is hard. But you owe it to yourself to silence the email notifications, stop scrolling Instagram and wishing you had that picture-perfect life. Remind yourself that you already do.
