GROW adds new year-long training program, EmpowerHER.

We recently announced the redesign and introduction of updated training programs and business counseling as a result of the ever changing face of the West Michigan entrepreneur. EmpowerHER is one of the most significant additions, which is a cohort-based, year-long training program for women entrepreneurs who are in business and are looking for assistance with stabilizing and/or scaling up.

“We audited and reviewed all of our programs and worked to enhance them to ensure that we are effectively meeting the needs of all business owners in West Michigan, including those who have been traditionally underserved,” said Mary C. Hartfield, program manager at GROW. “We wanted to develop innovative programs to connect with second stage business owners, and give them resources to continue to scale successfully.”-

The year-long EmpowerHER program pairs selected business owners with one of four business development specialists, providing them with monthly one-on-one sessions, helping with strategy, goal setting, action steps and accountability.  In addition, quarterly Think Big seminars will provide expert resources to help them grow and scale their businesses. Participants must have been in business for at least two years, have fifty thousand dollars in sales and a current business plan.
The four business development specialists for the first class are:

  • Barbara Welch, Inheritance Development LLC, Managing Member
  • Zena Patillo, Training Paradigm, President/Owner
  • Debra Bates, Choice Business Services, Inc., Owner/Administrator
  • Jeanne Englehart, ETC Consulting, Owner

“These four women have exceptional experience and skills in navigating the challenges as a business owner and leader across multiple industries. They will help our participants focus on their business, help them scale and provide insights needed to take their leadership to the next level,” added Bonnie Nawara, CEO.

Over 585 individuals attended one or more of GROW’s low cost business training programs last year. Add in over 1600 hours of educational training, along with over 400 hours of free one-on-one business counseling and you’ll see the reach and impact in all that the programs offer. GROW’s Business Wellness Check Up program pairs a GROW client with a volunteer mentor who will consult with the client on an ongoing basis. There are several updates, touchpoints and ways these sessions are tracked through the organization to ensure clients get the help and support they need.
